What does DieselFish do when the tide gets too low to race dragon boats?

We head for the wilderness.

A few weeks ago, the team travelled to the South Fork of the American River for a camping trip.

This trip was packed with adventure, laughs, and even a bit of chaos:

First, we hiked hard and worked up a serious sweat.

Next, we camped under the massive, never-ending sky. After the sun set, the horizon came alive with tiny pinpricks of light. That’s when we spotted a shooting star. This serenity wouldn’t last, though. Later that night, we discovered that one of us snores REALLY loud.

Then came the highlight, a white-water rafting experience.

At first, we handled the waves, rocks, and drops like pros. EASY.

But then, BAM.

An unexpected hit sent one of us nearly flying out of the raft.

That’s the thing about DieselFish.

We don’t just paddle together. We chase adventure together…on and off the water.

AN ICE CREAM SOCIAL LIKE NO OTHER | DieselFish Dragon Boat Racing Team | San Jose, Peninsula, San Francisco

For our latest social event, we went to Cruel Donuts for an intimate ice cream omakse experience. Read on to learn more (ONLY 30 SEC READ)

We’re lucky to have Lean on our team. She can paddle. She loves to race. She brings us treats from her donut shop, Cruel Donuts. And sometimes, she invites us to pop-up events at her shop—like the omakase ice cream event she hosted last Saturday.

Lean recently began serving ice cream at her shop. She asked ice cream chef Ray Lai, formerly of Bi-Rite, to develop a range of (mostly) Asian flavors. At the event, Ray shared his creations, omakase-style.

Ray invited the team to huddle around the heart of the operation, a massive freezer. He then passed out samples, one exquisite flavor at a time. Together, we enjoyed a flight of ice cream that included yuzu sorbet, pandan, ube macapuno, strawberry polka dots, cookie dough with caramel shards, and Ray’s favorite, Chinese almond cookie. We also chatted with Ray about his creative process.

As we savored the ice cream, Ray regaled us with stories about how he created the flavors. He blended childhood memories with food science factoids. We found the experience of listening to a professional speak so passionately about his craft both educational and entertaining.

It was an afternoon of laughter, learning, and delicious ice cream—and we have Lean and Ray to thank for it. Lean’s generosity makes our team stronger and sweeter.

DieselFish trains hard. But once we get off the boat, our mindset changes. You see, DieselFish loves to have fun. We enjoy hanging out together whenever we’re on dry land. That’s why our social calendar is just as exciting as our race schedule.

This February, we:
* Enjoyed Hawaiian food, mixed drinks, and lively conversations at Noelani’s Island Grill.
* Conquered an escape room at Escape Game San Jose.
* Hiked to the top of Edgewood Park and Natural Preserve.

We have more social events planned for the months ahead.

DieselFish Dragon Boat Team is thrilled to announce its 25th anniversary celebration on Saturday, October 21, 2023. All current and former members are invited to join the festivities in Redwood City.

We’ll kick off the celebration with an exhilarating paddle around Bair Island. Then, we’ll meet up for a lively party.

WE HAVE FUN ON DRY LAND, TOO | DieselFish Dragon Boat Team | Serving San Jose, Peninsula, San Francisco

Looking for fun activities in Silicon Valley? DieselFish has got you covered—on AND off the water. Read on to learn more.

DieselFish plays just as hard as it practices. Last Saturday, we organized a full day’s worth of fun events for our members.

The day began with a heart-pumping dragon boat workout. We reached, rotated, and pulled our way through the wild waters of Redwood City. The workout energized us. That’s a good thing because our day of fun together had just begun…

The team then met up at Red Door in San Mateo for an escape room experience. There, we worked together to solve a series of increasingly difficult puzzles.

Later, we gathered at the home of our teammates, Siva and Iris. We spent the rest of the night carousing over food, drinks, and board games.

The team had a wonderful time together last Saturday. The day’s events allowed us to connect on a personal level and further strengthen our camaraderie outside of practice sessions. We don’t need a boat to have fun.
