DieselFish’s trip to Portland was an adventure that we’ll never forget. Read
on to learn more. (30 SECOND READ) <<<
DieselFish recently
travelled to Portland to compete in the Rose Festival Dragon Boat Race. We had
a blast racing, making new friends, and exploring the city.
We felt
POWERFUL as we surged down the Willamette River. The festival uses Taiwan-style
boats, which are MASSIVE compared to the slim Hong Kong-style boats we usually
race. It took every ounce of strength, every desperate gasp of air, every
powerful stroke to pull our boat down the racecourse. The experience left us
feeling drained yet also strong and fast.
We felt
LOVED as we made new friends. Our coaches invited guests from other teams to
race with us. Together, we shared laughter, stories, and the joy of
competition. Racing and hanging out with them created bonds that we’ll cherish
forever.
We felt
JOY as we explored the vibrant city of Portland together. We devoured delicious
meals at famous restaurants, clinked glasses in celebration, and even conquered
an escape room challenge together. Every moment was filled with fun and
discovery.
Our trip to
Portland was an unforgettable experience. We can’t wait to go back!

>>> Poky brought a 360 camera to practice. Read on to learn about the special moments that she captured with this unusual device. (30 SECOND READ) <<<
Recently, our teammate Poky (@Pokywu) brought a 360-degree camera to our dragon boat practice. Poky’s camera captured an immersive view of our practice session. The video shows EVERYTHING. The teamwork. The surrounding scenery. Even the team’s struggle to catch its breath after a challenging endurance drill. After practice, we chatted with Poky to find out more about her camera and video. DF: What kind of camera did you use? P: The camera I used for this video is “Insta360 X3.” DF: Why did you bring your camera to practice? P: Haha it’s my new toy! I bring the camera to many places to test what I can do with this camera. And I always wanted to see how we paddle! DF: What unique perspectives were you able to capture with your 360-degree camera that wouldn’t have been possible with a regular camera? P: When you are diving, skiing, paddling, or doing any sports, you focus on looking in front of you. The 360-degree camera can record everything around you, and you can edit the camera direction later. Or you can create a drone view! Or get silly animal low-perspective videos. :p DF: What were some of your favorite moments that you captured during the practice? Why were these moments special to you? P: When our movements were in sync! Super cool! And seeing Jerry’s [exaggerated] head 👍. ➡ Do you like what you saw in Poky’s video? Try it for yourself. Our team members are united by our love for dragon boat
paddling. We strive to push our limits in our pursuit of the perfect race. To
achieve this goal, we practice on Tuesday evenings and Saturday mornings in
Redwood City (between San Francisco and Silicon Valley).
Our practices are challenging, lively, and fun. Lately,
we’ve been working on race and endurance pieces. Sometimes, after our boat has
come to a full stop and we’re all gasping for air, we see seals, hawks, and
rainbows.
It’s moments like this—exercise, teamwork, nature—that
bring us back year after year. That, and our social events. The team always
hangs out together after practice. We recently had a party at a team member’s
house. We’re also fond of escape room challenges, hikes, and restaurant
outings.
We’re thrilled that you’re following our journey! And
here’s the best part—we’re offering FREE dragon boat lessons to our new
followers! No experience required. Get off the sidelines and join us for fun,
fitness, and outdoor adventures. See you on the water!

The boat comes to a halt.
Your muscles relax. You refill your lungs with a deep gulp
of salty air.
As your heart rate settles, you notice just how gorgeous
Redwood City is during the spring.
The radiant sun warms the back of your neck.
A gentle ocean breeze whistles through your hair.
The tide, shiny as glass and blue as sapphires, rolls past
the boat.
Suddenly, you feel energized. Ready for the next drill.
There’s no better time for outdoor activities than now.
