Paddlers who Lunch | Redwood City Dragon Boat

DieselFish goes out to lunch…again

“This croissant looks buttery,” said Victor. “Can we get some more napkins?”

After practice on Saturday, the team went to Pamplemousse Patisserie Et Café in downtown Redwood City for lunch. We go to Pamplemousse when we want to reward ourselves after a decent workout. The French-style café offers rich savory dishes including crispy croque monsieur sandwiches and cheesy quiches. Sometimes, we even order their baked goods. (Victor loved his almond croissant.) Just because we paddle like savages doesn’t mean that we have to eat like them.

The team always goes out for meals together after practices. These meals allow us to bond and relax after our exciting workouts. Sometimes, I look forward to the meals as much as the practices.

Humans of DieselFish – Victor and Alex | Redwood City Dragon Boat

Family Fun with DieselFish

"I paddled with my son today. We haven't spent time together like this in a while. I don't exercise, so I was worried that I wouldn't be able to keep up. But it was fine. The people are nice and I had fun, so I will try it again."

"My mom wants him to pick up some new hobbies."

Dragon Boat Around the World – Israel

Watch dragon boat racing bring the world together

Here are some of my favorite quotes from the story:
• “It’s a water sport enjoyed in 72 countries around the world.”
• “It’s gaining in popularity these days because anyone can easily learn the basic skills in just 20 minutes, and anyone can enjoy the sport regardless of race or religion.”
•”We believe dragon boating is a way to bring people together under one tent, people of different faiths, different ages, abilities…”

Dragon boat racing has truly become a global phenomenon and a force for good!

The Burning Question | Redwood City Dragon Boat

Dragon Boat Nipples?

Hello Internet Friends!

Look down at your PFDs.1

What do you call those plastic square doohickeys? What do you do with them?

Post pictures of you using your doohickeys!2

Thanks,

Alex, your Minister of Newbie Happiness3

Editor’s Notes:

1. A “PFD” is a personal floatation device. Or, to newbies, a “life jacket.”

2. Awkward! But I am curious to find out how people use this feature.

3. After this weird post, not for long!

DieselFish is committed to educating newcomers about the fun sport of dragon boat racing. Send pictures and complaints to Alex at dfcaptains@gmail.com

Redwood City Dragon Boat | BIAC Clean Up Day 2015

DieselFish Dragon Boat Team cleaned up its home

On August 21, a group of paddlers and rowers joined together to clean up BIAC, our training facility in Redwood City. Together, we stripped old carpet from the boat house, bailed out dragon boats filled with stagnant rain water and disposed of algae-encrusted trash. DieselFish Dragon Boat Team is proud to have contributed to this community effort. BIAC is more than our training site. It’s also been our home for over a decade.

The team is now actively searching for an official hand sanitizer sponsor.
