Looking for a fun and exciting way to celebrate Lunar New Year? On February 10, DieselFish will offer a FREE dragon boat lesson in Redwood City. Dragon boats are traditional Chinese canoes. 

First, we’ll teach you our paddling technique.

Then, it’s off to sea we go…

You’ll feel the sun and wind as you FLY through the water.

Then, you’ll cheer with your new friends as you dash for the finish line.

The New Normal | DieselFish Dragon Boat Team

Our new online hangouts are fun and comforting.

Our dock is closed. Gyms are off limits. Restaurants aren’t seating customers. The shelter-in-place period has been difficult for DieselFish Dragon Boat Team.

But that doesn’t mean we can’t see each other. The other night, we gathered together in front of our respective computers for the inaugural session of our weekly video hangout.

Somehow, despite the distance between us, the hangout felt just like one of our after-practice lunches. We shared laughs, talked about our lives and even played a frantic game of online Pictionary. 

Our teammates Anna and Akash rule at Pictionary. We’re going to try Cards Against Humanity next time.

Health experts advise people to keep in touch with friends and family during this stressful period. I find it comforting to spend time with my DieselFish family.

Free Dragon Boat Lesson: Wet and Wild Adventure | DieselFish Dragon Boat Team

Dragon boat racers, are you ready? GO!


Get ready for free, wet and wild adventure on the high seas of Redwood City on March 14. DieselFish Dragon Boat Team will offer a free dragon boat lesson to the first 14 respondents.

During the lesson, you’ll learn how to paddle. You’ll also feel the wind as you fly through the water. Then, you’ll cheer with your new friends as you cross the finish line.

By the way, dragon boats are giant racing canoes. Dragon boat workouts will make you stronger and connect you with a supportive community. You’ll have lots of fun along the way.

The Sweet Smell Success and Grilled Meat

DieselFish finished the season with a bang (and a shot of soju).

Tonight, we gathered at Beque to celebrate a successful season filled with killer workouts, new friends and enough restaurant check-ins to keep Yelp busy for a while.

Marynka Rojas, the team’s coach, put down her grill tongs, and stood up to make a speech.

“This was one of our best seasons in a long time!” she said. “We won medals, recruited new members and had a great time!”

“Now,” she continued, “LET’S TOAST! GO DIESEL!”

Games DieselFishies Play: The Psychology of Human Relationships

Dragon boat is all about cooperation and synchronization, right? So why is game night such a popular event with the team? On May 18, DieselFish once again gathered at Head Coach Birk’s private game parlor to lie, cheat, and steal from each other – all in the name of fun.

We played: Dixit (a pretty storytelling game), Munchkin (it’s like Dungeons & Dragons, but cute), 7 Wonders (an insanely complicated construction game), and our favorite, Bang! (the wild west-themed strategy game that’s been a DieselFish staple for ages).

The night wasn’t entirely focused on fun and games. We also had a potluck, complete with beer floats and three different kinds of wings. The night’s fantastic smorgasbord gave us something to focus on when we weren’t coming up with strategies to cut each others’ throats. (Birk’s so smart, he can jam an entire bucket of chicken in his mouth and wipe out an entire table of opponents at the same time.)

Some of us won, some of us lost, and many more of us walked away hungry for another shot at victory. I can't wait to screw over my teammates at the next DieselFish Game Night!
